We were delighted when the manager of NatWest in Trowbridge approached us and advised that they were looking to do some fundraising and had chosen us to be the charity that would benefit!
With many parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles working at the Trowbridge branch, they had a great idea to organise a toy and book sale and this was held in the bank for the customers. We love the idea that through the sale of these toys and books, not only would they go on to be loved again but the money they raised will go to ensuring children that have nothing are able to enjoy the childhood pleasure of toys and books themselves.
Thanks to all the staff and customers of NatWest for your generosity!
We want to say a big thank you to the guys and gals from ITS, Oasis Healthcare and Cloud Pioneer who ran the Bath Half for Business against Poverty on a cold and wet Sunday in March. Not only did they all get around in great times but they have currently raised £1,900 that will go towards supporting the work of People against Poverty! We are particularly grateful to ITS for whom 2014 was their third year running for Business against Poverty.
Here at Business against Poverty (BaP) HQ, we love announcing our Member of the Month which acknowledges each organisation’s contribution to our work. The Member of the Month is announced on our website and social media, and features in our monthly newsletter which is distributed to approximately 1900 recipients, all of which provides great profile-raising opportunities.
Every year we also present one member with the Business of the Year Award at our annual flagship event, the Gala Ball. In previous years the lucky winner has been selected by the senior management team, but for 2014-15, we have decided to change the selection process and are handing the vote to you, our BaP members!
A shortlist will be compiled of all Members of the Month from the preceding year (December through to November), and we will be asking each eligible organisation to submit a short statement about their business, their values and what being a member of BaP means to them. The statements will be published and we will ask BaP members to vote for the BaP Business of the Year Award winner.
If you would like to be considered for a future Member of the Month between April and October this year and, as a consequence, automatically included in the shortlist for Business of the Year Award 2014-15, please contact our team to find out about opportunities to engage at a deeper level with People against Poverty/Business against Poverty. Members of the Month already eligible for this year’s award are: Keith Lunt (Opal Print), Chris May (Mayden), Dr Sally Vanson (The Performance Solution), Wayne McMaster (Zeke Creative) and Mark Rowe (Monster Travel).
We look forward to working with you, and don’t forget to pencil 22 November 2014 into your diaries and book your place for the Ball!

We’re delighted to announce that we are launching a brand new UK-based project and are looking for the right project and project leader in which to invest £10,000 and get it off the ground!
It’s been widely reported that in the current economic and social climate poverty is a major issue for the UK as well as overseas. As such, PaP has ring-fenced £10,000 to fund a brand new project which will benefit a community initiative based within the BA postcode.
Following our highly successful model to date of enabling communities themselves to identify the areas of greatest need, the project will be selected through a tender process. Individuals or groups are invited to submit their idea or project initially by completing an application form. The project may be pre-existing or new, but must meet the aims and objectives of the charity to tackle poverty.
PaP Chief Executive Officer, Val Huxley, commented: “Poverty has many guises; it’s not just about money, and the new project could tackle lack of social support, education, housing, childcare or something that we haven’t even considered! In addition to the funding, our vibrant business brand, Business against Poverty (BaP), will work to support the new project leader in his or her objectives. I’m very excited about this new development.”
