Dear Friends and Supporters,
I have had the privilege of serving the charity as Chair of Trustees for 9 years and in that time I have overseen significant growth and witnessed the impact of our work on thousands of lives. I in consultation with Valerie, (my wife and our CEO) I have determined that it is now the time for me to step aside as the Chair while continuing to serve as a trustee, contributing to our great mission as the co-founder of People against Poverty and founder of Business against Poverty.
We’re all in Business Against Poverty because we have a social conscience and aren’t afraid to let that be known. Quite apart from any more esoteric considerations, that means that we all have an innate sense of what is ethical in this world. Fairly recently I was in conversation with the owner of a small shop in Newlyn, Cornwall. He was telling me that various of his suppliers are based in the European Union and had promised him that their business relationship would remain unchanged when the UK leaves the EU.
