May was a very busy month for me, travelling to London every week and spending a week working in Germany. I loved it all of course but it made me realise how easily people can stop having fun. Work, work and more work really can make you dull or make life appear dull and it doesn’t have to be that way. I believe that having fun is an essential ingredient in to living a fuller happier life.
And so my big question to you this month is are you LOL (laughing out loud) and having fun?
Finding time to express joyfulness comes highly recommended. Not only is it good for the soul, it is good for your health and that of others; and it’s contagious!
How do I know this? Well…
On one of my travels back from London I ran into fellow BaP member and friend, Karen Ramirez. Whilst we had both had an early morning start and a full work day we spent the 3+ hour long journey back to Bath laughing out loud; silly jokes, reminiscing and coming up with a very fun idea for the BaP members (to be discussed further!) Not only did it seem to shorten the coach journey it entertained many of the passengers and the driver to boot! The mood on the coach was lighter and brighter and laughter was the cause…
Ultimately though, fun & laughter has a big role to play in our wellbeing:
Improvement to inner health – When we have a good belly laugh, it exercises the diaphragm, abdomen, respiratory system and even the shoulders.
Reduction of stress – Laughter decreases the levels of stress hormones, cortisol and epinephrine whilst increasing the level of health-enhancing hormones.
Relieves pain – Laughter has been cited as a natural painkiller (study from Oxford University published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society). It found that people who laugh a lot can withstand nearly 10 percent more pain compared to those who do not laugh much.
Fights depression – Laughter reduces the levels of stress-related hormones replacing them with feel-good hormones. In doing so it creates a positive state of mind and when a person has a positive attitude toward life, there is less chance to succumb to feelings of depression and hopelessness.
These are serious topics impacted by a simple solution… Have more fun! So what’s my suggestion? Book your fun & laughter sessions with BaP now! June CurryBusiness Networking, Bath Jun 30th 2015
