Marcom has been a keen supporter of the charity for many years and joined Business against Poverty at its inception in 2011. Mark Baines, Managing Director always finds the time and space to attend our networking events, whether they are local to his business or further afield and through joining in has made new business contacts and friends. We wanted to show our appreciation to Mark for his commitment to the work of the charity by awarding him our November Business of the Month. Well done Mark.
We asked Mark:
What motivates you? I am motivated by my desire to provide security, house and feed my family; to help others to do the same, whether for themselves or for their employers; and to create work which is effective and of which I am proud.
What is your business philosophy? Love your neighbour as yourself, and do onto others as you would have them do to you.
Who do you admire the most? Thomas Heatherwick – designer of the new London Routemaster bus, the petal-cauldron of flame at the London Olympics and the new Garden Bridge which will link the South Bank with Somerset House. Read my blog on him here http://www.mar-com.net/ideas/2015/05/21/thomas-heatherwick-uk-greatest-showman-designer/. Not forgetting of course, in no particular order: Theo Levitt and Philip Kotler on marketing, Winston Churchill and Jeremy Corbyn on politics, William Wilberforce and Mother Theresa on compassion and Michael Eavis of Glastonbury fame for vision and determination!
What would be your advice to anyone wondering if their business could benefit from joining Business against Poverty? Your stakeholders will look beyond your carefully crafted content into your brand. If your brand expresses more than just money-making, you have a better chance of winning their trust.
